Overview

The Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Fire Control / GMD Communications Network (GCN) Site Operations Lead provides expert technical direction and day-to-day support for a team of ~10 GFC/GCN System Operators. Working together with the Site Lead and Deputy Site Lead, the Operations Lead ensures flawless execution of all GFC/GCN operational activities, from training and qualification to anomaly resolution and support of major system transition events. This position is located at Fort Greely, Alaska and will be filled at Level 2 or Level 3, depending on education and relevant technical experience.

Core Responsibilities

Initial Training & Qualification Oversee initial qualification training for new System Operators. Create, maintain, and update Qualification Training Records in response to system upgrades or process changes. Continuation Training Develop and facilitate monthly GFC/GCN training events: gather input, develop slide decks, present material, and field operator questions. Conduct routine proficiency evaluations, assess performance, and deliver targeted feedback or remedial training. Documentation & Process Improvement Contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of operator checklists, work instructions, and related documentation. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency or reduce the possibility of errors. Drive implementation of approved changes. Anomaly Investigation & Support Assist the Site Lead, Deputy Site Lead, and Ops SME in investigating anomalies: document issues, collect data, perform limited troubleshooting, and prepare Reach-back Requests for external assistance Cutover and Transition Support Serve as Site Transition Director during asset cutovers and major system transitions, ensuring all participants understand objectives, possess required documentation, and remain focused on correct execution.

Required Qualifications

Level 2: Minimum 2 years of relevant technical experience with Bachelors of Science; 0 years with Masters Level 3: Minimum 5 years of relevant technical experience with Bachelors of Science; 3 years of relevant technical experience with Masters Both levels : Active Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret clearance at the time of application. CompTIA Security+ or equivalent to meet DoDM 8140.03 Information Assurance technical certification requirements. Strong proficiency with the bash shell, common Linux commands, the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), and Linux file management. Solid understanding of Cisco routers and switches, including routing protocols, IP addressing, and VLANs. Ability to read, write, and follow technical documentation to reliably execute system tasks.
