A Day in the Life As a Senior EHS&S Specialist, you will play a vital role in deploying and embedding Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) policies and procedures in line with South Africa regulations and Medtronic’s global standards. You will perform workplace and specific risk assessments — covering areas such as biohazards, ionizing radiation, ergonomics, warehouse safety, manual handling and fire protection —for both onsite and field-based operations. Based out of Johannesburg, scope for the EHS position will be Commercial, DC Operations as well as field, sales and service employees working frequently at hospital settings in South Africa. The Senior EHS&S Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting environmental, health, and safety programs to help ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, prevent injuries, and promote a strong safety culture. This role partners closely with Site Leadership, Operations, Facilities, Quality, Human resources, Employee/Labor Relations and employees to implement EHS strategies, monitor performance, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement across the operations. You will be delivering expert EHS&S support to a diverse workforce. You will be reporting directly to the EHS Manager. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: Lead the implementation of EHS&S programs, policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant working environment Conduct workplace risk assessments and implement controls across office, distribution center and field operations Drive key risk reduction initiatives including ergonomics, manual handling, warehouse safety, biohazards, radiation safety and emergency preparedness Ensure compliance with corporate standards and local environmental, health and safety regulations Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and implement corrective actions Deliver EHS&S training, awareness programs and emergency response drills Monitor EHS&S performance, report metrics and partner with leadership to drive continuous improvement Manage environmental compliance and sustainability activities such as waste handling, spill prevention, pollution prevention, and regulatory recordkeeping Cooperate with all relevant external agencies including Fire Services, Health and Safety authorities and Environmental agency Lead personal protective equipment, radiation dosimetry process and EHS&S initiatives across the region. Required Knowledge and Experience: A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment, Sustainability, Engineering, Science, Industrial Hygiene or possess a relevant qualification such as a NEBOSH Certificate, EHS accreditation. Knowledge of clinical theatre protocol and local CRICE (Company Representatives in a Clinical Environment) expectations Fluent written and spoken English language  Candidates must also be highly computer literate, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Good skills in planning & coordinating, communicating & influencing, achieving milestones, resolving issues  Able to work in a cross functional and multinational environment; culturally aware. Must be organized, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team, take initiative, prioritize workload effectively, adapt to a constantly changing environment, and demonstrate an outgoing, friendly, and ‘Can Do’ attitude.
