About this role

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join

Our mission at Marketing Technology is to provide a state-of-the-art platform and measurement capabilities to enable marketing and product teams to engage with our customers effectively. Everyday millions of Airbnb customers are reached via our streamlined platform over comprehensive channels, such as Email, Push, SMS, In-App Channels as well as external Ads Platforms (e.g., Google, Facebook, etc). We deliver substantial business impact by enabling numerous stakeholders across the company, including Marketing (Brand and Performance), Guest/Host, Policy, and more.

The Difference You Will Make

As a Senior Software Engineer on Marketing Technology’s Content Platform team, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership to build a no-code or low-code platform to bring together a thoughtful user experience for Marketing to author, segment, and plan lifecycle management of communications on onsite (airbnb.com, in-app) and offsite (emails, push notification) channels.

You and your team will own the serving and hydration of billions of heavily personalized pieces of marketing content. Knowing that any downtime in our systems results in a loss of trust from our customers and loss of revenue from our marketing channels, you will help own the quality and uptime of our systems.

You’ll be working alongside with a team of talented software engineers to improve our usability of the platform of tools, reducing time-to-market for our internal teams, and develop technical strategic planning towards driving a best-in-class platform. You will also work closely with XFN partners like design, product and marketing stakeholders to dive deep to solving problems that have direct monetary impact on our business.

A Typical Day

As a Senior Software Engineer on Content Platform, you will:

• Work with cross-functional partners including product managers, designers and marketing managers to design and deliver high-quality products across multiple channels that directly contribute to Airbnb’s revenue.

• Lead efforts to architect and build technology for serving marketing content to guests and hosts across Airbnb’s stack—including our web frontends, GraphQL API gateway & business logic layer, and storage layer.

• Make heavy use of our mature DevAI stack to explore, build and verify your work.

• Think user first: you might optimize user experience page performance by improving our rendering layer, or how we fan out and fetch data in the backend.

• Work with customers to identify usability issues and proactively fix them.

• Build relationships with engineers in product orgs (e.g. Relevance, Stays, Experiences) and partner with them to support company-wide initiatives.

Your Expertise

• 6+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role.

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience.

• Technical leadership: hands on experience leading project teams, setting technical direction and strategy and mentoring engineers.

• Demonstrated comfort in working in a fullstack environment—you might be a backend expert, but are happy building client components; or a client expert who is happy building efficient APIs.

• Passionate about
