About this role
Prime Air is Amazon's drone delivery service, using autonomous drones to safely deliver packages to customers in under an hour. Our mission is to build a safe, reliable, and efficient drone delivery system that transforms the way packages are delivered to customers worldwide. To deliver on that mission, Amazon is looking for talented candidates who combine superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. In this role, you'll join Structures and Payload team under Drone Fleet and Production as a Liaison Engineer supporting manufacturing and assembly operations. You will serve as the first line of defense for developing engineering dispositions related to non-conformances found during drone production. You will work closely with Design Engineering teams to drive design updates that improve quality and lower cost. You will work hard, have fun, and make history! This Liaison Engineer must have experience supporting manufacturing or production environments in aerospace or hardware programs and must be able to balance engineering judgment with analytical rigor, knowing when each is appropriate. Key job responsibilities • Review and disposition non-conformance events related to drone hardware (including vehicle structure, payloads, and electromechanical assemblies) that may occur during procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and integration • Serve as the first line of defense on the production floor, providing real-time engineering support to the Assembly and Test organization • Develop standard repairs, rework procedures, and propose Design for Manufacturing (DFM) improvements that improve quality and reduce cost • Partner with Design Engineering teams to translate production findings into actionable design updates • Conduct root cause investigations and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence • Develop and maintain disposition templates and analysis methods to address common non-conformances efficiently • Drive process updates and improvements to work instructions in collaboration with Manufacturing and Quality teams A day in the life As a Liaison Engineer on the Prime Air team, you will be embedded with the Assembly and Test organization that performs final assembly and drone-level tests before shipping drones to operational sites. You will respond to non-conformances as they arise, applying engineering and design principles to develop dispositions that keep production moving. When patterns emerge, you will work with Design Engineering to implement permanent design changes that eliminate recurring issues, improve product quality, and lower manufacturing costs. You will be a critical bridge between the production floor and the design office.
About the team
The Structures and Payload team is responsible for the entire vehicle structure and systems that interface with the vehicle payload, and providing engineering support for the Assembly and Test organization. The Liaison Engineers on this team are the direct link between production operations and design engineering, ensuring that manufacturing challenges are resolved quickly and fed back into the design process for continuous improvement.
